Etymology

Possibly from Hebrew Tsdoki צדוקי [sˤə.ðo.'qi], whence Zadokites or other variants.

The sect of the Sadducees (săj'ʊsēz, săd'yʊ–), sect of Jews formed in Palestine around the time of the Hasmonean revolt (c.200 BCE), and ceased to exist sometime after the 1st century CE.
