Etymology[عدل]

The Old Frankish ethnonym *Frank in the 7th century Chronicle of Fredegar is derived from the name of a 1st century BC chieftain Francio. Its actual etymology is uncertain, perhaps from a *frankon "javelin, lance" (OED).
